Citizenship by Investment

Grenada Citizenship by Investment: Cost, E-2 Access and Process

Grenada is the only Caribbean citizenship by investment country with a US E-2 investor treaty, which makes it the usual choice for applicants planning a business presence in the United States. Here is the full cost and process picture.

Why Grenada is different

Grenada's programme grants full citizenship in exchange for a qualifying contribution, with no requirement to live in the country. Its distinguishing feature is the E-2 treaty with the United States: Grenadian citizens can apply for an E-2 investor visa to run a business in the US, a route not open through the other four Caribbean programmes.

  • Two qualifying routes: the National Transformation Fund (NTF) or approved real estate.
  • US E-2 treaty access for Grenadian citizens who meet the separate E-2 requirements.
  • Visa-free access to China, unusual among Caribbean passports.
  • No residence, interview, language or business-experience requirement for the citizenship itself.

The E-2 route, realistically

A Grenadian passport makes you eligible to apply for an E-2 visa. It does not grant one. The E-2 has its own substantial requirements and is a non-immigrant status, not a green card.

  • You must invest a substantial, at-risk amount in a real, operating US business.
  • The business must be more than marginal — it should generate more than a living for you alone.
  • E-2 status is renewable but temporary, and it does not lead automatically to permanent residence.
  • Several countries require a period of citizenship before an E-2 application; plan the sequencing with a US immigration attorney.

Who qualifies

  • Main applicant aged 18 or over, of good character and in good health.
  • Clean criminal record with police certificates from each country of adult residence.
  • Documented source of funds and source of wealth — the real gate in every Caribbean programme.
  • Dependants can normally include a spouse, children within age limits, parents, grandparents and, in some cases, siblings.
  • Prior visa refusals must be disclosed with an explanation.

The process, step by step

  • Step 1: Objective and eligibility review — confirm whether E-2 is genuinely part of your plan.
  • Step 2: Appoint a government-authorised local agent; only they can file.
  • Step 3: Prepare passports, vital records, police certificates and financial evidence, apostilled where required.
  • Step 4: File; due diligence begins.
  • Step 5: Approval in principle.
  • Step 6: Make the NTF contribution or complete the property purchase.
  • Step 7: Certificate of registration issued, then the passport.

How long it takes

Expect roughly four to nine months from filing to passport for a complete file. Document preparation, not government processing, is usually the bottleneck — particularly where overseas birth or marriage records must be ordered and apostilled.
